GUARDIAN          DATE
DAILY MAIL     DATE
Topic of Story –Eg World, Politics, Human, Celeb. How much Hard/Soft news?

World news and Domestic news. Hard news all over due to the importance of stabbing dilemma and US voting.
November 7th
Domestic news and celeb.
Hard and soft news due to the split between Catherine Zeta-Jones and ‘Knife Thugs’
November 7th
Headlines/Captions of similar stories

‘Change school closing times to curb stabbings, says doctors’
‘Sleep Leisure Fashions off duty look for winter’
Very serious and less catchy headlines than the Daily mail due to their target audience want to read serious articles.
‘Why won’t the lock up the knife thugs?’
‘Liz 53, and the joy of not acting your cleavAGE’
These headlines appear to less intellectual (use of puns) than the Guardian’s due to the difference target audience they aim for.
Choice of Images

The images on the guardian show historical photos that represent a serious matter for example the ballot boxes or WW2 image.
Their only photos are off female celebrities and still using them to entice readers. The images take up a much bigger proportion of the front cover than The Guardian.
Evidence of Objectivity/Subjectivity
The guardian use more objectivity due to the fact they fail to give a strong opinion and let the reader make up their mind themselves.
Daily Mail uses subjectivity as it uses terminology such as ‘thugs’ and ‘cleavage’.
Compare ads – what are they and who are they targeting
They are aiming for the ABC1 demographic although they do not have any adverts on the front page.
Aiming towards the C1, C2 and D, demographic although they also don’t have adverts on the front cover.
Anything other interesting expression of news values, beliefs?
The Guardian shows 5 different stories, this may be done in order to entice more readers as circulation is continually dropping.
Considerably less text on the front cover compared to the guardian.
